andBeyond Launches Exclusive Autumn Photography Expedition in Chilean Patagonia

Some countries are fortunate to experience all four seasons distinctly, and when the landscape is as breathtaking as Patagonia’s, each season reveals unique moods and colors. Autumn in Patagonia, Chile, is especially striking, showcasing vibrant reds and oranges that transform the region into a natural masterpiece of light and atmosphere. This seasonal beauty has inspired luxury experiential travel company andBeyond to introduce a specialized small-group photographic journey designed for travelers who appreciate that exceptional imagery requires time, patience, and immersion.

The new expedition, limited to eight guests, invites participants to slow down and engage deeply with Patagonia’s vast horizons and shifting light. Pedro Barraza, managing director for South America at andBeyond, emphasized that the journey encourages travelers to move beyond simply capturing images to truly understanding the landscape, which remains the dominant force in the region.

The itinerary begins in Santiago and moves into the dramatic wilderness of Torres del Paine National Park, then continues to the Lake District and Araucanía region. Over eight days, guests photograph iconic sites such as Grey Glacier, lenga forests, the Serrano River, and Lake Pehoé. The journey blends expert photographic mentorship with real field conditions, encouraging participants to work with the elements—weather, light, and movement—rather than merely observe them. This approach reveals Patagonia at its most expressive and elemental, offering a rare opportunity to hone photographic skills amid some of the southern hemisphere’s most remarkable natural settings.

After Torres del Paine, the group travels north to Pucón and the Araucanía region, where volcanic landscapes, reflective rivers, and ancient araucaria forests provide new perspectives on scale and atmosphere. A highlight of the expedition is a scenic charter flight that grants aerial views of Patagonia’s glaciers, mountain ranges, and terrain, perspectives rarely accessible from the ground. The week concludes with a practical Adobe Lightroom session at andBeyond’s Vira Vira Lodge, allowing guests to refine and develop their images under expert guidance.

French photographer and filmmaker Timothy Dhalleine, who has lived in Patagonia since 2013, will host the journey. Dhalleine is renowned for capturing Chile’s diverse landscapes—from the Atacama Desert to southern Patagonia—and for telling deeply human stories through his work. His recent projects include the documentary "The Present," which follows Dimitri, a young Frenchman with Huntington’s disease cycling from Mexico to Patagonia, and a film documenting legendary climber Sir Chris Bonington’s return to Chilean Patagonia 62 years after his historic ascent of Torre Central del Paine. These works reflect on themes of time, memory, and landscape.

Under Dhalleine’s mentorship, participants will learn not only technical photography skills but also how to anticipate natural light, craft visual narratives, and develop images with intention. The small-group format ensures meaningful interaction with the host photographer and ample freedom for personal exploration.

The 2027 expedition is scheduled for April 15 to 22, coinciding with Patagonia’s autumnal transformation into deep reds and copper tones, warm-colored forests, reflective lakes, and the granite contours of Torres del Paine appearing suspended between seasons. Rates start at US$16,890 per person sharing, covering accommodation, internal transfers, selected meals, expert photographic guidance, and support from andBeyond guides and travel specialists. International flights, travel insurance, and premium beverages are not included in the package.
