MANILA, Philippines – Approaching his 50th year in the garments and apparel industry, Boyet Fajardo continues to advance his legacy as a leading prêt-à-porter designer. Known for pioneering plus-size fashion in the Philippines through his label Substance, Fajardo has unveiled a new holiday collection that draws heavily on Asian influences, particularly Japanese design elements, while maintaining a distinct Filipino aesthetic.

The collection, which prominently features a palette of black and white accented by vibrant splashes of color, has already attracted attention within the ready-to-wear market. Fajardo explained that Japanese design has long inspired his work due to its timeless, geometric, linear, and dramatic qualities, which he adapts to suit local tastes.

Despite facing physical challenges, including eyesight issues, Fajardo remained deeply involved in the creation of this limited-edition, locally made collection. He expressed newfound enthusiasm for the photoshoot process, a departure from his previous experiences, emphasizing that this collection encapsulates his 48-year journey in fashion. Leading the campaign for the holiday collection is supermodel and beauty queen Melanie Marquez, who recently returned from the United States for the photoshoot.
