Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser Aims for Asian Games Comeback After Injury Setback

Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser is hopeful of finally representing Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming Asian Games after being named in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas’ (SBP) 30-man pool for the tournament set to begin next month in Japan. The TNT big man expressed gratitude for his inclusion, acknowledging the honor of being considered for the national team once again.

Ganuelas-Rosser, 32, was initially part of the Gilas Pilipinas squad that won gold in the previous Asian Games held in China but was sidelined due to a fractured leg. This injury prevented him from competing, marking a significant setback in his international career.

Recently, Ganuelas-Rosser returned from an ankle injury sustained during the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals. If he maintains his health, he is expected to be a strong candidate for the final roster, especially given his size, versatility, defensive skills, and high energy on the court. His prospects have been bolstered by the unavailability of other big men such as Kai Sotto, AJ Edu, and Mike Phillips, who are committed to their B.League clubs and thus cannot participate in the Asian Games.

In his third game back from injury, Ganuelas-Rosser demonstrated his value by contributing 19 points on efficient 8-of-11 shooting, along with four rebounds, four assists, and one steal, helping TNT secure a decisive 114-80 victory over Titan Ultra in the PBA Governors’ Cup. This performance underscored his readiness to compete at a high level despite recent health challenges.

While Ganuelas-Rosser is determined to earn a spot on the Gilas roster, he remains realistic about the selection process and his role.
