Chinese Film 'Dear You' Expected to Resonate Deeply with Filipino Audiences, Says Ambassador

The Chinese box-office hit "Dear You" is anticipated to strike a strong chord with Filipino viewers, especially Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), whose lives are similarly shaped by themes of sacrifice, family, and hope. This was emphasized by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan during the film’s Philippine premiere and advance screening at the IMAX Theater in SM Mall of Asia.

Ambassador Jing highlighted that "Dear You" transcends a mere migration story, instead portraying universal values that Filipinos can easily relate to. He explained that the narrative of the Overseas Chinese community is not only about migration and hard work but also deeply rooted in family, faith, and hope—emotions that resonate profoundly with Filipinos. Directed by Lan Hongchun, "Dear You" is a Chinese family drama set against the backdrop of the Overseas Chinese community. The story unfolds through generations of family letters known as qiaopi, which were historically used by overseas Chinese laborers to communicate with their families back home.
