Katseye’s Sophia Urges Fans to Look Beyond Online Negativity: ‘The Internet Is Not Everything’

Sophia Laforteza, a member of the global girl group Katseye, is urging fans and critics alike to keep perspective amid online criticism, emphasizing that social media does not represent the full reality. Speaking on Jake Shane’s Netflix and Spotify podcast “Therapuss,” Sophia addressed the often overwhelming negativity found on the internet and encouraged people to not let it define their view of the group or themselves.

Sophia explained that much of the harsh commentary online stems from a small, vocal minority who amplify opinions based on limited or incomplete information. She described how online narratives often begin with a single person’s comment, which then spreads rapidly as others echo it without original thought. This phenomenon, she said, can make the criticism seem louder and more widespread than it actually is.

She further illustrated this point by comparing the volume of online negativity to a crowd: while the critical voices might sound like a stadium, in reality, they could fit into a small room. This analogy highlights how a relatively small group can create a disproportionate amount of noise on social media platforms.

Sophia also pointed to Katseye’s live audience at Coachella as a reminder of the group’s true support base. She noted that thousands of fans attended the festival, many unable to see or hear the group clearly from the back, yet their presence far outnumbered those spreading negativity online. This, she said, underscores that the internet is not the entirety of the world’s opinion.

Addressing rumors and declarations on social media that Katseye was finished, Sophia firmly dismissed such claims. She emphasized that the group remains active and committed to their mission of empowerment and pursuing their dreams through singing and dancing. She framed Katseye as a group of young women focused on positive impact rather than being defined by online chatter.

Ending her message with a lighthearted tone, Sophia encouraged people to disconnect from the internet’s noise and enjoy life’s simple pleasures, suggesting they “go catch some butterflies.” This call to step away from social media negativity reflects the group’s broader approach to handling fame and criticism.

Katseye debuted in 2023 as a six-member ensemble and made a notable visit to Manila in 2024, engaging in fan showcases and collaborations. In February 2026, member Manon Bannerman went on a temporary hiatus to focus on her health and well-being. Two months later, she removed Katseye from her Instagram bio but reportedly remains in positive communication with their labels Hybe and Geffen.

The group is recognized for songs such as “Gabriela,” “Gnarly,” “Gameboy,” “Touch,” and “Debut,” and continues to build a global fanbase despite the challenges of online scrutiny.
