Whitney Houston’s Legacy Celebrated with New No. 1s Album, First Barbie Doll, and Upcoming Projects

NEW YORK — As Whitney Houston’s 63rd birthday approaches, celebrations honoring her enduring impact on music and culture are underway. A new album titled “WH1TNEY,” compiling all 11 of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles, was released on Friday, marking a significant tribute to her four-decade-spanning career. This collection highlights the songs that not only topped charts but also became defining anthems for generations worldwide.

The release of the album coincides with other commemorative events, including the fifth annual Whitney Houston Legacy of Love gala scheduled for Saturday night. Additionally, Mattel is launching the first-ever Whitney Houston Barbie doll on Sunday, modeled after her iconic look from the 1987 “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” music video. Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and executor of her estate, described the Barbie as a dream realized after conversations about such a tribute began more than 20 years ago. She emphasized the emotional and inspiring nature of seeing this vision come to life, noting the doll’s role in transcending generations through love and purpose.

Pat Houston also reflected on the late Clive Davis, who passed away in June and whose legacy is deeply intertwined with Whitney Houston’s career. She acknowledged Davis’s pivotal role in Whitney’s life, extending beyond music into a genuine personal connection. According to Pat, Whitney herself recognized Davis’s reverence for her talent and career, a bond that persisted until his death.

Looking ahead, the 35th anniversary of Whitney Houston’s film and soundtrack phenomenon, “The Bodyguard,” is approaching next year. While Pat Houston confirmed that plans are underway to mark this milestone, she refrained from providing specific details until arrangements are finalized.

Regarding the possibility of a biopic similar to the recent Michael Jackson film, Pat Houston expressed cautious interest. She acknowledged Whitney’s unmatched vocal catalog and the potential for various projects but stressed the importance of purpose and avoiding oversaturation in the industry. She indicated that while different proposals arise regularly, the estate remains careful about what is ultimately released.

As 2027 will mark 15 years since Whitney Houston’s passing, Pat Houston shared her hopes for how the public will continue to view Whitney’s legacy. She emphasized the importance of remembering Whitney’s voice and the passion and artistry she brought to the music industry, setting aside other aspects of her life.

Pat also revealed aspirations to produce and present previously unseen live performances by Whitney, particularly shows that have not been widely available in North America.
